Scenic Autumn Viewpoint Along the Shirakami Mountain Route
Tsurubeotoshi Mountain Pass
Tsurubeotoshi Mountain Pass is a scenic viewpoint located on the border of Akita and Aomori Prefectures. Overlooking the Shirakami mountain range, the pass is known as one of the best autumn photo spots in the area and is especially popular among visitors driving through Shirakami Sanchi.
Located along the mountain road connecting Fujisato Town in Akita and Nishimeya Village in Aomori, the pass offers panoramic views of the forests and valleys surrounding the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site of Shirakami Sanchi. During autumn, the mountains are covered in vivid red, orange, and yellow foliage, creating spectacular scenery across the landscape.
The best time to visit is typically from mid to late October, when the fall colors reach their peak. Because the road passes through a mountainous area with heavy snowfall, seasonal road closures may occur outside the autumn season. Visitors are encouraged to check road conditions in advance before visiting.
