A newly renovated visitor facility has opened in northern Akita Prefecture, offering a fresh gateway to the UNESCO-listed Shirakami Sanchi.

The Shirakami Sanchi World Heritage Conservation Center (Fujisato) officially reopened on April 1, 2026, following its first full renovation since opening. The renovation introduces interactive, experience-based exhibits that allow visitors to explore the region’s unique beech forest ecosystem in a more engaging way.

The center also features multilingual audio guides via QR codes and on-site nature advisors, making it an ideal starting point for both first-time visitors and eco-tourism travelers.

Admission is free, and the facility serves as a key hub for learning about one of Japan’s most pristine natural environments before heading into the mountains.
