Goshonodai Park

Goshonodai Park is a spacious seaside park in Happo Town, Akita Prefecture, located beside JR Akita-Shirakami Station along the scenic Gono Line. Overlooking the Sea of Japan, the park is best known as one of the area’s most popular cherry blossom viewing spots.

Around 800 cherry trees bloom throughout the park in April, attracting visitors during spring. During the annual cherry blossom festival, lanterns decorate the park, adding to the festive atmosphere both during the day and at night.

The hilltop location also offers panoramic views of the Sea of Japan and the Oga Peninsula. On clear days, the park is a popular place to enjoy sunsets and seasonal scenery while traveling through the Shirakami area.

In addition to its seasonal views, Goshonodai Park features open lawns, walking paths, playgrounds, and recreational facilities, making it a relaxing stop for families and road trip travelers. Just next to the park is Hatahata-kan, a seaside hot spring facility with ocean-view baths, local dining, and accommodation, making the area a convenient place to relax after sightseeing.

Goshonodai Park is located next to JR Akita-Shirakami Station in Happo Town, along the scenic Gono Line. The park is approximately 35 minutes by car from Noshiro Minami IC and about 40 minutes by car from Juniko Lakes, making it a convenient stop while traveling between the Shirakami Sanchi area and the northern coast of Akita. Parking is available on site.
