A valley with beautiful scenery originating from Shirakami Sanchi.

Mase Valley (Sanjugama)

The Sanjugama in Mase Valley is renowned for its unusual rock formations and about thirty natural potholes carved over many years by flowing water. It’s an excellent walking route to admire the clear streams of Shirakami Sanchi.

The best time to visit is during the fresh greenery of spring and summer, as well as the vibrant autumn foliage season. The changing colors of the leaves create a striking contrast with the basalt rocks, while the clear, roaring streams come together to form a stunning natural landscape.

When visiting by car, it’s recommended to park at the Bunako-Land parking lot. From there, you can start your walk on the forest trail leading to the valley. The well-maintained trails offer multiple routes, with a one-way walk taking about 30 to 60 minutes. Whether you choose a leisurely stroll or join a guided tour, you’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty where forest and streams intertwine.
