Guided Tour of Lovers’Blessing Park & Kumiko Woodcraft Experience in Noshiro

Kimimachizaka Park in Akita Prefecture became a sacred place for lovers to pray for romance after Emperor Meiji received a heartfelt love letter from the Empress during his visit there. This guided experience will take participants on a stroll through the park while learning about its history and natural scenery. A visit is especially recommended during the cherry blossom season in spring or the vibrant foliage in autumn.

Participants will tour Kimimachizaka Park with a guide and learn its story.

As this location is considered a spiritual spot for romance, participants will receive a heart-shaped ema (wooden prayer plaque) and a love letter-themed postcard to take part in a traditional matchmaking ritual.

After the guided tour, the experience continues at the “Love Letter Café” inside the park, where guests will try their hand at crafting kumiko—a traditional Japanese woodworking technique—using Akita cedar, a specialty of Noshiro City. The finished kumiko piece can be taken home as a keepsake, either as a necklace or a coaster, offering a tangible memory of this heartfelt experience.

Kumiko woodworking features intricate designs, yet remains easy for beginners to learn.

Finally, savor Hiyama tea—the northernmost premium Japanese tea—to conclude your half-day journey.
