Road updates as of May 2022!
As we approach late spring, with the snow melting away after the long winter period, trailheads to and around the Shirakami Sanchi area are now scheduled to reopen. Read on to see which roads are accessible as of now.
- As of April 20, 2022: The Jūniko course has been reopened. To access from Akita prefecture, drive along Route 101, enter onto Route 280 in front of Jūniko station in Fukaura Town and continue past Nihon Canyon to access the courses.
- As of May 20, 2022: Trails leading to Mt Fujisato-Komagatake, Dakedai Forest, Tsurubeotoshi Pass and Kurumidai Campground will all be accessible along Route 317.
- As of May 27, 2022: Mt Futatsumori trailhead in Happo will reopen and is accessible from Akita via National Route 101. Near JR Hachimori Station, take the Shirakami Futatsumori Road to the end point (Futatsumori Trailhead Parking Lot).
