PIENO DI SOLE is a handmade pizzeria specializing in authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas, freshly baked in a stone oven during lunchtime hours.

Each pizza is fired at high temperatures to create a perfectly crispy crust and chewy center, with layers of rich flavor in every bite. True to its commitment to local sourcing, the restaurant uses carefully selected ingredients from the surrounding area.

In addition to pizza, PIENO DI SOLE also offers handmade cookies and pastries—perfect as souvenirs or a sweet treat for the road.

Located just a 4-minute walk from JR Moritake Station, the shop is also a great spot for train lovers. If you’re lucky with your timing, you might catch a glimpse of the Resort Shirakami sightseeing train rolling by as you enjoy your meal.

The Story Behind the Shop

“PIENO DI SOLE” means “full of sunshine” in Italian.

The name reflects the owner’s vision: just like the warmth of the sun, the stone oven represents a source of joy. The hope is that every customer who visits the shop leaves with a smile, feeling bright and cheerful—as if basking in sunlight.

The pizzeria officially opened its doors on April 2, 2014.Inspired by a life-changing bite of stone-oven pizza in Yamagata Prefecture, the owner was so moved by its flavor that he decided to pursue it himself.

Driven by passion, he spent a year and a half self-studying pizza-making, even building his own stone oven from scratch. Through trial and error, he worked to recreate the emotion he once felt—transforming it into pizzas that could bring that same joy to others.

And so, PIENO DI SOLE was born.

A Taste of Akita – Local Specialty Pizzas

The Junsai pizza lets you enjoy the uniquely soft and jelly-like texture of junsai, and it’s a limited-time flavor available only in summer.

In addition to classic options like “Margherita”, “Mushroom & Bacon”, and “Cheese & Tomato”, the shop also offers a variety of creative pizzas made with Akita’s local specialty ingredients.

Examples include “Fukura Chili Pepper”, “Fuki-Burdock Miso”, “Bacon & Pumpkin”, “Smoked Pickled Daikon”, and the summer-exclusive “Junsai & Cheese” pizza—each one a unique, Akita-only flavor you can’t find anywhere else.
