Categories:   Traditional, Eats/Treats

Across Japan, Akita Prefecture is known for its delicious rice and Japanese sake. Taste the smooth sakes of the Shirakami area, made with the pure waters of World Heritage Site Shirakami Sanchi. The brands below can be enjoyed at a variety of restaurants and bars in the area, and can be bought at Tenyo Sake Shop in Noshiro City (information at bottom of page) which is a 20-minute walk from Noshiro Station.

Yamamoto Gomei, Happo Town

Made with fresh shirakami water, this local sake brewery produces a special yearly sake. Try their most popular label at Tenyo Sake Shop — Pure Black, an easy-to-drink, refreshing option.

Kikusui, Noshiro City

Visitors to the Shirakami area can visit Kikusui’s sake storage in Noshiro City. See hundreds of bottles lined up along the inside of the old train tunnel.
